Dr. Raymond Uy is an award-winning music educator, voice teacher, and lecturer. He was a 2017 Grammy Music Educator of the Year quarter-finalist and a 2018 Hanover District Teacher of the Year. He has also been included in Who's Who Among America's Teachers for his work over the years as a public school music teacher and adjunct college instructor. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from Boston University (2018), a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music (2003), and a Bachelor of Music degree from Westminster Choir College (2001).
An advocate for lifelong music learning, Dr. Uy serves on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh, OLLI, and also presents highly acclaimed lectures for various programs across the country, including Dartmouth College, University of Richmond, UConn, and Penn State. In addition, he currently serves as the Department Chairperson for ESASD K-5 Vocal Music.
Under his direction, Dr. Uy's choirs have performed in notable venues, such as the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall. His students continue to perform around the world.
Among his favorite places to perform as a soloist are Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space on Broadway/95th, and across Europe. As an international vocalist, Dr. Uy has performed tenor roles with the New York Lyric Opera, Pennsylvania Lyric Opera, Garden State Opera, Delaware Valley Opera, and the Lyric Opera of Los Angeles.
Publications include Therapeutic Songwriting in Schools: A Handbook for Teachers (2020), Modeling Diversity: Translating Social Issues through Music in NAfME's Music in a Minuet (2019), Heterophonic Vocal Music Training in the International Choral Bulletin (April 2017), and Equity and Diversity in Music Education: Toward a Critical Trait Theory in TEMPO magazine (January, 2017).
